Born in Kashgar, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China, Dilber is an internationally acclaimed lyrical coloratura soprano, known as the "Philomela of China", in reference to the Athenian King Pandion I's daughter who, according to legend, turned into a nightingale.
In 1976, Dilber was admitted to the Xinjiang Songs and Dances Troupe through examination. In 1980, Dilber joined the Depart of Vocal Music and Operas in the Central Music Conservatory in Beijing. In 1984, still a student, she won a major award at the Finland International Opera Competition. In 1987, she finished her master's degree at the Conservatory. Dilber was then employed as a permanent recital singer by the Finland National Opera, as well as the Sweden Malmoe Opera. Dilber was the winner of the Birgit Nilsson Prize for 1997 and 1998. She is considered to be one of the best coloratura sopranos of her era, with critics praising her "unparalleled beauteous voice".
Dilber has a marvelous voice, which remains clear and powerful even at the highest register. She does not overdo ornamentation as a coloratura soprano usually does, and her music and techniques are considered to be in perfect balance.
